China is now experiencing its third phase of urbanization oriented to urban regeneration toward a sustainable use of resources.
For instance, Shanghai`s Municipal Master Plan for 2040 clearly stated that it is necessary to focus on “stock appreciation” instead of “incremental production” to achieve the goal of connotative development.
本次展览希望通过ILAUD的经历，展示那些吉卡洛·德·卡洛（Giancarlo De Carlo）在建筑设计和建筑教育方面留下的宝贵财富的重要时刻。
This exhibition wants to catch the momentum presenting the legacy of Giancarlo De Carlo’s works in both architectural design and architectural education thorough the ILAUD experience.
Hence, the exhibition has two main goals that are not to show De Carlo’s works in itself but his approach and understanding of architecture instead.
First, the participative process of architecture characterized by the construction and communication methods of the project; participation and reuse of the existing built environment; the relationship between urban landscapes and resources and, above all, the citizens. Second goal is to present the experience of ILAUD, which is based on a student-centered pedagogy approach. The aim is to introduce new ideas and practices, which can respond more appropriately to the requests raised by the new needs of a complex society in China and in the world.
